About Clean Stream Champion
Clean Stream Champion is a clean water awareness campaign sponsored by New Castle County Public Works. Learn how small, everyday actions can make a big difference in our local water quality.

Be part of the solution
Clean Stream Champion is just one piece of a larger initiative called GreeNCC, which aims to create a cleaner, greener New Castle County by:
- Improving water and air quality
- Encouraging healthy and eco-friendly lifestyles
- Conserving and protecting local habitats
- Promoting smart growth
- Reducing harmful emissions by promoting renewables and improving energy efficiency
We also receive support from the Delaware Nature Society and the City of Newark, Delaware.

Quarterly giveaway
When you pledge to be a Clean Stream Champion, you’ll be entered into our quarterly giveaway. Past prizes include green cleaning supplies, native plants, and gift certificates for environmentally friendly products or companies. See the giveaway rules.
Great Schools, Clean Streams Contest
We sponsor a contest in the spring of every year. Schools compete for a share of the $15,000 prize pool by encouraging residents to take the Clean Stream Champion pledge on their behalf. The schools with the most pledges win! Even if you’ve already pledged for the quarterly giveaway, you can do so again for the contest. Contest pledges reset every year. Rain barrels
We offer discounted rain barrels during our spring and fall sales. The retail price for an EarthMinded RainStation barrel is approximately $150, but Clean Stream Champions can buy them for $50. Learn more about rain barrels.

- Learn about watersheds and find out which watershed you live in.
- Participate in a river, community, or neighborhood cleanup — or start your own! Annual river cleanups include the Christina River Watershed Cleanup and the Red Clay Cleanup.
- Volunteer at the Middle Run Tree Planting, an annual event where volunteers plant up to 600 trees to enhance biodiversity and improve watershed quality.
