Used cooking fats, oils, and grease belong in the trash, not down the drain!
Great Schools, Clean Streams is New Castle County’s annual environmental awareness campaign. Sponsored by the Department of Public Works, our goal is to help residents do their part to keep our waterways clean and safe, prevent plumbing problems at home, and support their local school system.
Between April 12th and April 30th 2021, residents will pledge to dispose of their used cooking fats, oil, and grease properly. When they pledge, they can designate their pledge to any public, charter, or private school in New Castle County, DE. The 9 schools that receive the most designated pledges in their tier will win cash prizes. Ten schools that collect 50 or more pledges will be entered into a drawing for a “wild card” prize of $250.
Here’s what we hope you pledge to do: Let the oil and grease cool down, and put it in a container. When the container is full, put it in the trash. It seems like a simple step, but it makes a big difference for your home. And when thousands of New Castle County residents do it, it makes a big difference for our local waterways!
