Great Schools, Clean Streams is an annual contest designed to educate New Castle County residents about protecting our waterways. Local schools will compete for a share of the $15,000 prize pool by encouraging residents to take the Clean Stream Champion pledge on their behalf.

How does the contest work?

Schools compete for a share of the $15,000 prize pool by encouraging residents to take the Clean Stream Champion pledge on their behalf. The schools with the most pledges in their size group win first, second, or third place. There’s also a wild card drawing! Read the Contest FAQs.

Contest FAQs

Can my school participate?

All public, charter, private, and parochial schools in New Castle County between kindergarten and 12th grade can participate.

How can my school win?

The nine schools that receive the most designated pledges in their size group will win cash prizes. Twenty-one schools that collect 50 or more pledges (or submit a student-signed pledge poster) will be entered into a drawing for a $250 wild card prize.

How can schools boost their pledges?

Identify a school champion who will rally your school’s supporters!

  • Follow and share our Facebook and Instagram posts.
Who can pledge?

Anyone 18 or older may take the pledge and assign it to a New Castle County school. This includes teachers, school staff, and New Castle County employees. Please note: During the contest, there is a limit of one pledge per email address.

How can students pledge?

Students under 18 can take the pledge by signing a poster displayed at their school. To protect the privacy of minors, we do not collect electronic signatures from anyone under 18.

Your school can earn extra pledges by sending us photos of student signatures on a pledge poster (worth 50 pledges), 15 or more students wearing green (worth 100 pledges) or new this year, Student Original Artwork: What Clean Streams Mean to Me (worth 10 pledges per artwork).

Can I pledge in the contest every year?

Yes! Pledges reset every year of the contest. Renew your commitment and support your school.

What if my school is not on the list?

If your school doesn’t appear on the pledge form (and it’s a public, charter, private, or parochial school in New Castle County, Delaware), please email us.
